With almost a decade of experience in photography, it's safe to say we've been around the block a time or two when it comes to weddings. Over the years we've gathered a list of tips and tricks to make sure your wedding runs smoothly! Most of these are great day-of wedding tips. If you're looking for overall planning recommendations and more pre-wedding how to's, head on over to our planning section of the blog.
Most importantly though - no matter where you are in the wedding planning stage - don't forget to breath, relax, and enjoy the ride because you're entering such a big & exciting milestone for you and your better half!
Tip #1 Ask your officiant to move to the side before announcing your first kiss - it will make your pictures so much more intimate and photogenic!
Tip #2Â If possible, steam your wedding dress the day before your wedding. As long as you're not folding it, you shouldn't need to steam it again the next day!
Tip #3 Have any details you want to be photographed ready and set aside for when your photographer arrives. This will save time having someone else gather them later! (Ex: Rings, shoes, veil, earrings, invitation, perfume bottle, special mementos, etc.)
Tip #4 If you feel like you are going to cry during the ceremony or any other time - hold a finger under your nose. It really works!
Tip #5 Hold the First Kiss for 3-5 seconds. This gives your photographer extra time to catch the moment! Grooms, feel free to throw in a dip or a fist pump if that's your style!
Tip #6 Make sure you snack before the ceremony - depending on your day of timeline, you will probably be hungry wayyyy before dinner! Also make sure to stay hydrated!
Tip #7 Take a video of how to bustle your dress. Your bridesmaids can pull up the video if they didn't get to practice before hand!
Tip #8 If it's a summer wedding, don't forget to bring and use sun screen! You don't want to get burnt during the ceremony or family photos! (I've seen it happen more than once unfortunately!)
Tip #9 Have your officiant make an announcement for family members to stay close after the ceremony for photos. If possible, it's also helpful to have a designated person (personal attendant or wedding planner) to help call out names of people "on deck" for photos.
Tip #10 If not doing a first look, try to find time to sneak away just you and your spouse and connect with each other. (This can often be accomplished before or during sunset photos when we sneak away from the hustle and bustle!)
Bonus: Take a moment to pause, look around, and be thankful. It's true what they say - the day goes by so, so fast! No matter what happens, don't forget you're marrying your favorite person & celebrating the start of forever!
